The spinning top is an essential learning tool for motor skills and intellectual development. One of the oldest games in the world, loved by people of all cultures. Mankind has seen many games come and go, but spinning tops remain an essential element in games, art and technology! Spinning wheels in ancient Greece (originally called turbines) were favourite toys of children and young women, as shown in vase representations.

The spinning top is one of the oldest games ever invented and has been around for thousands of years. The first spinning tops were made of stone and clay (terra cotta). The oldest spinning top found dates back to the 35th century BC, about 6,000 years ago. In the 8th century BC, the ancient poet Homer sang about the spinning top. The British Museum has a collection of Egyptian spires dating back to 1250 BC. But Hermes, the messenger of the gods, has also been immortalised enjoying the game. Whirlpools have been known since prehistoric times but became particularly popular from archaic times onwards. However, indigenous tribes made spinning tops from fruit, fruit, bone, wood and leather. Today, some spinning tops are technologically made of metal, magnet, glass or plastic. The Earth is the largest spinning top in the world and like all other tops, it rotates on an axis and maintains perfect balance.
